I have a background as a hawker, and Quail’s egg was one of my item.
It was 2005 and Quail’s egg was a rare thing in the market.
One day, I met a Quail farmer in Cigugur Village, Pusaka Jaya - Subang.
After a long talk, I decided to make a coop to start Quail farming.
I Made my first coop and bought 200 Quail chicks, 10 days old, mix breed, for 1.000 Rupiahs each.
As day goes by, my quails began to lay egg.
It was very joyful moment to see my quail laying egg for the first time.
But that happy feeling only lasted for a few days.
Not long after they laid eggs, all of my Quails were infected with some kind of virus and died instantly.
Time still goes by and I still continue my routine as a hawker and selling children food at some elementary school.
Situation has forced me to move to another place.
From Rangdu Village, Pusakajaya - Subang, I moved to Juntikedokan Blok Candi, Juntinyuat - Indramayu.
The only thing I carried was a Quail coop.
It was the only thing I had, even though my profession was still selling food to elementary student, and an occasional hawker when there was event that gathering masses.
In 2006, I, accompanied by my wife, searched for Quail farm just to buy some Quail and start Quail Farming.
But it was hard to find information, people were not as much connected that time as today.
I travelled from one village to another, looking for Quail farm that I didn’t even know where they were.
Even the place that I once bought eggs was not open anymore.
It was said that some virus had wiped out their Quails.
After a long search with no result, I moved my search to some poultry that sold Quail food.
It took a while to ask people about the information, but at last I found what I was looking for.
Whenever there was people selling Quail food, then there should be some quail farmer around.
At the time when information was not easily obtained from internet, this was the least that I could do.
I had a long conversation with the guy who sold Quail food, and decided to bought some kind of hatching machine.
Just as a good gesture, a gratitude for giving me the information I had been looking for.
I and my wife went to the village of Kroya, Cirebon.
We found the quail owner, had the obligatory chit-chat, and I was given the option to buy all of his 3000 Quail chicks, or no deal at all. I encouraged my self to buy them all.
I was promised to get the egg a week after.
The egg did hatched, but not long after, my Quails were all dead and I had left was the only egg in the hatching machine.
I considered myself lucky.
After two failures in a row, I began to analyze the possible cause of quail infection.
Alhamdulillah, at the third attempt, I somehow managed to raise them even though some complaint was still around.
The most important thing is that the virus never infecting my farm again.

It was a sad thing to see my effort crumbled because of the avian influenza virus.
If there was a cure, I would have tried to find it, whatever it cost, as long as my quails could have been saved.
